Drug and Alcohol Tests Find Few Positives

More than 18,000 drug and alcohol tests have been conducted across the aviation industry over the last six months. These tests have been carried out under both CASA’s random testing program and by aviation organisations required to have drug and alcohol management plans.

Drug and Alcohol Policy Development

Alcohol and other Drug Services can assist in developing your Drug and Alcohol Management Plan.

Whilst alcohol and drug tresting is relatively new for many participants in the aviation industry it is well established in industries such as mining, petroleum, rail and shipping. There have been numerous cases in the industrial realtions courts and commissions over the past 5 or so years relating to battles between unions and employers regarding the choice of testing regime and numerous unfair dismissal claims in relation to alcohol and drug policy.

CASA has developed a DAMP template which satifies their compliance requirements but unfortunately leaves operators very exposed in terms of industrial relations law. Alcohol and other Drug Services has partnered with long standing experts in the AOD law field to be able to deliver aviation operators policies which will protect meet CASA's requirement AND provide a fair and practical industrial relations solution.
